The Galena fireplace is designed as a design in three traditional elements: duct and upper opening, grate and intermediate ashtray and lower base with the main objective of taming the central fire and providing light and warmth to the house. The upper crown is made of steel sheet planes forming a surround around the central flame. Its pointed and vibrant shape, with a set of articulated planes, refers us to the agrarian origin of the house, dedicated to the breeding of avian species, and to the morphology of the same, showing itself as a metaphor for the animal throat, subduing the fire within it. The final geometry has been resolved to adapt it to an asymmetrical space, leaving one side higher than the opposite. Thus, the most open corner would face an open living room space, leaving the other side as a reserved space closer to the fireplace. The design has taken special consideration of the draft dimensions to optimize the sections of the central evacuation duct outlet through a closing mechanism. The central grill and ashtray could be modified to adapt to other situations (for example, without a base). The lower support is an L-shaped section of reinforced concrete that collects the fire’s own area and separates and protects the floor from the embers. The design piece can remain as an autonomous work within a space or be attached to a vertical wall like traditional fireplaces.
