Public competition for the drafting of the rehabilitation project for the IES Rambla Prim in Barcelona. The outdoor space located between the building and Rambla Prim is proposed as a public area that facilitates access to the ground floor of the center as well as to the new assembly hall on the lower underground floor. A meeting square, an atrium with public access on two levels to connect the common spaces of the building. On the other hand, on the opposite facade, the outdoor space is protected and enhanced as the center’s own patio, increasing its surface area, taking advantage of its more sheltered location, inside the block. In the later phases, the work on the facades, interior spaces and facilities on the upper floors will be expanded, to improve their performance and integrate them into the ground floor operation, fully adapting the center to current regulations.
This new outdoor, community and accessible public space must incorporate new inclusive perspectives: gender, childhood, elderly, to become a reference center for the neighborhood and its users. The Institute can also contribute to alleviating urban deficits in terms of public space and equipment in this sector of the city, one of the objectives set out in the Neighborhood Plan. In this sense, the possibility that the multipurpose space of the assembly hall encourages and incorporates the participation of residents will transform the project into a motor for creating links with the place that enhance coexistence between different groups, in addition to offering students more comprehensive, exhaustive and complementary learning than traditional educational services.
