Memory

The property to be reformed is a house on the mezzanine floor, passing, between road to street and interior block patio, to which it has a direct exit. Its traditional configuration, with a terrace that is located at an upper level of the house, drastically reduced the sunrise of the interior. This fact, together with a very strict and occlusive compartmentalization, led to propose an operation of reform and integral conditioning; transforming a dark and segregated home into an open and heterodox home, where the visuals allow to prolong and blur the traditional limits of the spaces of the house.
To complement the opening operation, the finishes and material encounters have been worked on as a general uniforming strategy. For example, the rooms have upper glass cards that prevent the perspective occlusion of their limits. The roof is rehabilitated, eliminating the false ceiling, to be able to see the original configuration of ceramic vaults and wooden beams, making it a continuous surface comparable to the pavement, but in an opposite orientation. The pavement is an indispensable element of the project, emphasizing and limiting the rooms to provide continuity to the circulations and open spaces. At the top, the patio and the gallery annex, the pavement is of continuous ceramic ditch finish. In the lower area, on the other hand, it is made of contemporary hexagonal hydraulic tiles, in a chromatic combination of two colors (marine blue and clay brown) on a white background that includes five combinations: three of them homogeneous (cambres and perimeter) and two of them with eminently white pieces with a colored asymmetric triangle. This repertoire responds to the whole set, simultaneously allowing a homogeneous reading of the pavement, but providing each of the spaces with a unique chromatic personality.
CENTRAL CORE
The central nucleus of the house is a capital element of the reform project: it is established as an autonomous and free element in the distribution and allows to organize the spaces and distributions based on its position and configuration. Inside it houses a complete bathroom program and laundry area (washing machine and dryer and work area) and, at the same time, articulates the rooms and circulations between them throughout the house.
According to these uses and following the perimeter route, the nucleus serves all spaces in a unique way through architecture. The entrance is used as a front and limit of the reception, as a study on the back with an open table and shelves, as a low window open on the side of the dining room and as a built-in wardrobe at all height in the double room. At the same time, it serves as a possible storage space in the reservation between the bathroom ceiling and the flooring of the house.
