The historic Queen Anne Victorian (1880) residence was built by a surgeon and has undergone multiple remodels over the decades. The house lost its soul.
The main challenge was to recreate the sense of an interconnected home, ready for a modern lifestyle and respectful of its historic past. Great care was taken to restore and remodel old Victorian details, but not too much, reducing a possible tension with a new, modern and minimalist language.
A reduced material palette was developed to stitch the spaces together, creating a continuous flow as one walks through the house, the garden and the views of the city. In the kitchen atrium the boundaries dissolve between the inside and the outside, feeling like one is under a large tree in the garden.
The goal was to create a timeless home that emphasizes family life. It was completely rebuilt with materials of the highest quality, healthy, natural and sustainable down to its bones.
